September’s film: THE GREEN RUSH

The Green Rush

by Jason S. Edwards
co-produced Casey Casseday
TRT. 55 Minutes

From producer/director Jason S. Edwards comes Cinema Speakeasy’s September film: The Green Rush. Set in rural Northern California, The Green Rush chronicles the lives of several marijuana farmers over an entire outdoor grow season.

On film, these sometime outlaws identify themselves by the color of the bandanas they wear to hide their faces. Thus, Mr. Red, Mr. Blue and Mrs. Pink talk us through the dangers and heartbreaks of growing crops that nudge at the line of legality, and bring the battle between state and federal law into sharp relief.

And let’s not fool ourselves: Growing pot is not an easy job. From DEA fly-bys and the looming threat of prison time, to family hardships, thievery and flat-out financial struggles, these farmers face an enormous uphill battle.

Featuring never-before-seen footage of marijuana cultivation, The Green Rush uncovers the gritty, blue-collar world of this notoriously private and dangerous profession.

Why this is all so special

The Green Rush is being self-distributed. That means that screenings like these, as well as festival runs, ARE the theatrical release. This is it. You won’t see it elsewhere. It’s democracy folks, and you gotta support it.

September’s screening is curated by Georgi Goldman
